What is NDIS Complex Care?
Complex Care refers to high-intensity disability supports funded under the NDIS for participants who require skilled, competency-checked workers to perform daily care tasks. These supports go beyond standard personal care and include supports such as complex bowel care, catheter care, enteral feeding, tracheostomy management, seizure management and ventilation support. These supports ensure participants with significant medical needs can live safely at home and in the community, while maintaining choice and control in their daily lives.
It is designed for participants whose health needs carry higher clinical risks and require staff with advanced training and supervision, whether living independently, in SIL, ILO, or transitioning through STA.
Understanding NDIS Complex Care

How It Works
FAQs
Q1: What’s the difference between standard NDIS support and Complex Care?
Standard NDIS support usually covers personal care, domestic assistance, or community access. Complex Care goes further — it’s for participants with high-intensity health or behavioural needs that require specially trained staff, medical procedures, or continuous supervision.
Q2: Does Kuremara provide Complex Care in SIL and STA?
Yes. We provide Complex Care for participants living independently, in Supported Independent Living (SIL), and through Short-Term Accommodation (STA). Our goal is to ensure safe, skilled, and compassionate care in any setting.
Q3: Do you provide overnight or 24/7 supports?
We can tailor rosters, including active nights, if funded in your plan and feasible in your location.
Q4: How do you ensure safety?
Risk assessments, care plans, staff competencies, supervision, and incident/escalation pathways.
Q5: Can you help me prepare for plan reviews?
We can provide progress notes and outcomes to support your review discussions.
Q6: Who can access Complex Care under the NDIS?
Participants with higher clinical risks or complex health needs may be eligible. This includes people who require advanced medical supports, 24/7 supervision, or specialised behaviour support. Eligibility is determined through your NDIS plan and support needs assessment.
Please refer to the NDIS eligibility page for detailed information.
Q7: Does the NDIS cover the cost of Complex Care?
Yes. If Complex Care is considered “reasonable and necessary” for your needs, the NDIS can fund it. This is usually outlined in your NDIS plan under Core Supports (Assistance with Daily Living) or through SIL (Supported Independent Living) funding.
Please refer to the NDIS pricing arrangements to get detailed information about the cost of complex care.
Q8: What qualifications do Complex Care workers need?
Workers must complete the NDIS Worker Orientation Module 1 and additional Module 2 training for high-intensity supports. Depending on participant needs, workers may also require first aid, medication administration, and behaviour support training.
Please refer to “Worker Training Modules” to know the qualifications of complex care supports.
Q9: Are Kuremara staff trained for high-intensity supports?
Absolutely. As a Registered NDIS Provider, all our staff complete the mandatory NDIS Worker Orientation Module 1 and additional Module 2 training for high-intensity supports. This ensures participants receive safe, compliant, and professional care at all times.
Q10: What makes Kuremara different from other NDIS providers?
Many providers say “no” to complex SIL or high-intensity supports. At Kuremara, we proudly say “yes”. Our expertise lies in supporting participants with the highest needs, offering safe homes, skilled staff, and care plans built around dignity, safety, and independence.
