Individualised Living Options (ILO) NDIS Gold Coast

Kuremara-participant

Kuremara is one of the NDIS ILO providers on the Gold Coast, QLD, registered to deliver both ILO stages. We help you design a home life on your terms, living alone, with a host family, or with a friend or partner, with flexible support that fits around your day, not a fixed roster.

Individualised Living Options (ILO) is NDIS funding that lets you choose where you live, who you live with and how you are supported, then builds a personalised package of paid workers, informal supports and on-call back-up around that choice. Kuremara delivers ILO across the Gold Coast, from Coomera and Helensvale to Southport, Robina, Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta, in two funded stages: Exploration & Design, then Support Model.

What are Individualised Living Options in Gold Coast?

ILO is an NDIS home-and-living support for people who want to live with more independence than a shared SIL house offers, but still need regular help. Instead of funding a fixed roster, ILO funds a support model: a mix of paid drop-in workers, a live-in host or housemate, technology, on-call help and the informal support of family and friends, designed around the way you actually want to live.

ILO pays for support, not the home itself. You rent or own your place like anyone else. Because the model is personalised, it can flex as your skills grow: more independence, fewer paid hours, the same safety net.

If you need hands-on help for most of the day and night, Supported Independent Living (SIL) on the Gold Coast may be the better fit. We can help you compare both honestly.

The two ILO stages

01

Exploration & Design. Funded planning time with you and the people who matter to you – to explore where and how you want to live, test ideas, and write a Service Proposal for the NDIA.

02

Support Model. The ongoing funding to run the arrangement, primary supports (host, drop-in workers, co-resident) plus supplementary supports (on-call, mentoring, monitoring and adjustments).

Kuremara can support you through both stages, or take on Stage 2 if your design is already complete.

Who can access NDIS ILO on the Gold Coast?

ILO is generally funded for adults who need at least around six hours of support a day but do not need a 24/7 rostered team and who want a say in how their home life is set up. You are likely to be a good fit if you:

Are an NDIS participant aged 18+

With a permanent disability, psychosocial disability or ongoing medical needs.

Want to live alone, with a host, or with someone you choose

Rather than in a shared home with housemates matched by a provider.

Need regular but flexible support

Daily help with routines, skills and safety, with on-call backup rather than someone in the house all night.

Want to build your independence on the Gold Coast

Close to family, work, study or a community you already know.

Not sure whether ILO or SIL is right for you? Talk to our team – we will explain both in plain language, without obligation.

ILO vs SIL vs STA vs SDA- what's the difference?

These four NDIS home-and-living terms are often confused. Here is how they fit together on the Gold Coast.

Individualised Living Options (ILO)

Pays for: a flexible, designed package of paid, informal and on-call support around how you choose to live.

Best for: living alone, with a host, or with a friend; ~6+ hrs/day support.

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Pays for: rostered support workers in your home, usually 24/7, often shared.

Best for: high daily support needs. SIL Gold Coast

Short-Term Accommodation (STA)

Pays for: a supported stay of up to 14 days at a time, including respite.

Best for: breaks, trials and carer respite. STA Gold Coast

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

Note: ILO can be delivered in an SDA dwelling or any ordinary home.

Individualised Living Options Gold Coast FAQs

Is Kuremara an NDIS ILO provider on the Gold Coast?

Yes. Kuremara is an NDIS-registered ILO provider delivering Individualised Living Options across the Gold Coast, Queensland – including Southport, Robina, Burleigh Heads, Coomera and surrounding suburbs – covering both ILO Exploration & Design and the ongoing Support Model.

What is the difference between ILO and SIL?

SIL funds a rostered team of support workers, usually 24/7 in a shared home. ILO funds a personalised support model: a mix of paid drop-in support, a host or housemate, informal support and on-call back-up for people who need regular help but want to live alone or with people they choose. ILO is generally for people needing around six or more hours of support a day, but not overnight staff in the house.

What does ILO funding cover, and what do I pay myself?

ILO covers the exploration and design work, and then the support model, paid workers, host or co-resident payments, on-call, mentoring and monitoring. It does not cover rent, mortgage, groceries, utilities, or personal spending, which you pay from your own income like any other tenant or homeowner.

What are ILO Stage 1 and Stage 2?

Stage 1: Exploration & Design is funded planning time to work out where and how you want to live and to write a Service Proposal for the NDIA.
Stage 2: Support Model is the ongoing funding to run the arrangement once approved. You can ask for Stage 1 funding at a plan meeting or reassessment even if you are not sure ILO is right for you yet.

Can I live alone with ILO on the Gold Coast?

Yes. Living alone with drop-in support is one of the most common ILO arrangements. Your model would typically include scheduled visits, on-call phone support, assistive technology where useful, and planned overnight visits if needed. Kuremara’s 24/7 telehealth doctors add a further layer of safety.

How does a host arrangement work?

You live in the home of a screened and matched host – an individual or family who provides day-to-day support and companionship as part of your model. Kuremara recruits and screens hosts, sets up the agreement, provides training and oversight, and stays involved so both you and the host are supported. Matching takes time and you always have a say.

Can I move from SIL to ILO?

Yes. Many participants step down from 24/7 SIL as their skills grow. We plan the transition with you, trialling time alone with on-call back-up, keeping familiar workers where possible, and gathering the evidence your planner needs to fund ILO at your next plan reassessment.

Does ILO include housing on the Gold Coast?

Not directly; ILO funds your support model, not rent or a property. But ILO housing on the Gold Coast is part of the design work: we help you find an accessible private rental, social housing, an SDA apartment, or a host home that suits your model, and can link you to Kuremara’s own supported homes where a vacancy fits.

How do I choose between NDIS ILO providers on the Gold Coast?

Ask whether the provider is NDIS-registered, delivers both Stage 1 and Stage 2, has written Service Proposals that the NDIA has approved, offers on-call back-up and clinical support, and will let the model step down as you gain skills. Kuremara meets all five and will share example proposals on request.

I don't have ILO in my plan yet. Can you still help?

Yes. We can work with you and your support coordinator to request Stage 1 Exploration & Design funding at your next plan meeting or reassessment, and document why ILO suits your goals better than other home-and-living supports.
